This is the story of an amazing man and how one person can make a huge difference in the lives of thousands of people by following the guidance of his heart. Throughout the book and as I finished it I kept asking myself "What little thing can I do to change lives for the better?" I believe I have become more generous and compassionate as a result of reading this book. It is well written and reads like an adventure story (and that it is!). I would think young people would find this book inspiring and interesting, too.

Can one write a fair review without having finished a book?
Well, I couldn't finish it. Life is too fast...and I am getting so much older. I can't waste time on something that plods and plods, even if most of the reading world praises this book to heaven. I'll bet not a dang thing happened until past a third of the way, and by then, when things started moving--slowly--I said "enough."
He may be a wonderful man, but this book is awful.

I could not finish this book although others have been inspired by it. Its continuous praise of this good man became very boring. Surely Mortenson is human and therefore imperfect. To me he seemed like the Fools step in type ... who could have done much better with his funds if he had thought more logically and planned better and taken more council from his management committee

I read Three Cups of Tea after A Thousand Splendid Suns. For a humanitarian book about the importance of educating girls, it has lots of manly adventures: climbing K2, negotiating with Taliban thugs and tribal kidnappers, navigating corruption and outright thievery. Something for everyone--it will change the way you think of the Muslim world.

You have to remind yourself it is a true story, one man made and making a real difference by just getting on with it. A book which teaches the reader a little bit about another country/religion/way of seeing life. I love that in a book, I enjoy broadening my knowledge while enjoying a good story.

Absolutely fascinating account of building schools for girls and promoting literacy and education in the tribal regions of remote Pakistan. The dedication and perseverance of Greg Mortenson is just amazing. Couldn't put the book down, it was a page turner, and so inspiring!
