Excellent book. I will enjoy reading the other books in this series. F. Paul Wilson can really write. I actually cared about the characters and what was going on. Some surprises at the end made this book an excellent read.

The Repairman Jack novels focus on a man named Jack, who lives off the radar of the government and most of society, acting as a sort of urban mercenary in modern-day New York City. For a hefty price, Jack creatively handles situations that can't be dealt with publicly or through the branches of the legal system -- things like blackmail or sabotage of other lucrative but less-than-legal endeavors.

The first book in the series sees the enigmatic protagonist battling a supernatural force that is unlike his usual "fix-it" jobs. Though it may not be the most complex of storylines, it is very fun and rather well-written, feeling like the sort of action-packed story you could see brought to the silver screen. Jack has quickly become one of my favorite characters in contemporary fiction and I can't wait to see where he goes.

I never thought I would enjoy this book as much as I did, or how hooked I would get on the series, for that matter. The Repairman Jack novels are an interesting mix of mystery and horror/sci-fi. For that reason, I feel like it would appeal to readers of private-eye or hardboiled detective stories looking to branch out into a more speculative fiction genre. I'd also recommend this book to fans of Jim Butcher and the Harry Dresden novels as it is written in a very similar style with its roots in urban fantasy.

Simplistic supernatural thriller, with lots of adventure though few surprises.

There's a lot of Heroic White Man Saving His Loved Ones From Exotic Monsters/Evil Foreigners going on here, but I suppose this is to be expected from an author who writes in his acknowledgments that he was inspired by "the old-time tellers of Weird Menace/Yellow Peril Tales." The edition I read had been updated to fix certain pop cultural references, but the story doesn't really work without the tired racist stereotypes and I suspect this author wouldn't care to remove them anyway.

Enjoyable. Jack is a cool character, though there wasn't much mystery or many surprises in the story itself. All of the twists were predictable and telegraphed pretty early on. I look forward to the next one though, just to read more about Jack.

This is the one that started it all! The first Repairman Jack novel. Repairman Jack has become a well-known beloved protagonist, always saving the day, not quite a super hero but just an average guy with better than average ways of getting the job done, and what ever job you need done/fixed, he can do it. Stephen King is the Repairman Jack fan club President.

"Repairman Jack is one of the most original and intriguing characters to arise out of contemporary fiction in ages. His adventures are hugely entertaining." --Dean Koontz

Excellent read. Well paced, good storyline. I am not much on cliffhangers but I know this is a series so I have to live with that.

THE TOMB by F. Paul Wilson: Repairman Jack doesnt deal with electronic appliances. Instead, he fixes situations for people, situations that usually involve putting himself in deadly danger. This Blocks Matthew Scudder sober or Childs Jack Reacher living in New York City. The current project involves recovering a stolen necklace, which alleged carries an ancient curse. In addition he must protect Vicky, the daughter of his girlfriend, Gia. Assuming Jack survives this outing, I am looking forward to new adventures. P.S. He does survive so there is bound to be a sequel.
