It's Christmas, so there must be another Andy Carpenter book available. So with 'Jingle Bells' playing in the background, it's another great season for murder. For once, Andy is eager to take a legal case for Pups, an elderly woman who is being harassed by the city for keeping puppies (as a foster home).
No sooner than Andy extricates Pups from her problems with the Zoning Board, she is charged with the murder of the man who complained about Pup's foster home. To pile on a bit more, the police find the gun that killed the complainer and attaches it to the drive-by shooting of Pup's husband (and another man) 18 months before. Now Pups is on trial for three murders.
Surprisingly, I figured the case out before the end (I usually let Rosenfelt's story just flow over me). That did not decrease my enjoyment of the book at all. Rosenfelt still offers the best mix of humor and mayhem around. What on earth will I do when I finish all of his books?
