This is an excellent biography of Victoria, the Princess Royal, daughter of Queen Victoria of England and her consort, Prince Albert of Saxe-Coberg. At the age of 17, Vickie, as she was known, married into the Prussian royal family and became, for a short time, Empress of Germany and mother of the future Kaiser Wilhelm of WW-I fame.

Not at all tedious, this book is well written but scholarly enough to satisfy the most discerning history buff. A considerable photo section adds to its appeal.

I found it to be very entertaining reading, especially for those interested in European history during the second half of 19th century and/or the interrelated lives of Europe's royalty, most of whom had some connection to the English crown.

Oh, the things we did not learn in school. So I'm reading up on them now. ;-) This is about an era in my native Germany's history that is not well covered in school - and frankly, perhaps I wasn't very interested back then. ;-) Books like this are quite the eye-opener for me... and make me thankful for democracy.
I found it hard to continue sometimes - so many things made me very ANGRY. So many "what if's", and "If only's". Great read.
