Lucy and Henry are interesting people and you want them to be happy, but their story lacks flow. Key scenes seem to be missing and Cook employs over-used plot devices (evil mother, illness, etc) to advance the story. Why/how did Henry get injured? Why/how did his mother find happiness? There are glaring holes in the story that distract from it. The story seems like it was trimmed at the last minute; it could have used about 30 more pages to explain things properly.

Very cute historical romance. Strong female protag who wants to be a veterinarian. Dashing young man of course. I thought it was well done. You get to laugh at the silly London wealthy, and hope Lucy can be more than that.

Henry is so mean, and Lucy just forgives him over and over.
