Thomas Sowell blasts holes in some of the statistical "evidence" we all know is "true." I was surprised (and appalled) to learn of some programs that were supposed to help disadvantaged people, actually end up hurting them when put into practice.

As always with Thomas Sowell, a very eye-opening read!

Though Thomas Sowell's style of writing can be somewhat dry he is truly a writer who needs to be heard. He presents a lot of facts, backed up by research, that show Sowell's dedication to truth in social policy. He's also a strong believer in common sense and understands the mind-set behind failed social policies of the past 30 years. "Politically correct" theory is repeatedly confronted with facts. Much of what the intellectual elite - who think of themselves as "thinking people" - call thinking, turns out, on examination, to be rhetorical assertion, followed by evasions of mounting evidence against these assertions.
