I thought this book was excellent! It read like an updated version of Anne Rice's early vampire books without the cheesiness and theatricality. I liked how raw and gruesome it was, as well as the intimacy of Ariane's voice. I was sucked into the plot immediately within the first chapter and the book felt more realistic because the characters and vampires had more natural flaws and didn't feel like exotic, fictional gods that would never exist in the real world.
I was a little disappointed in the author's creation of all the lackey teenagers that hung around Daniel because it felt too wannabe/trendy to me. I pictured a bunch of gothic kids running around like the Lost Boys in Peter Pan. However, Jefferson made up for it in the plot when she concocted the gory car accident toward the end and brought the novel to a close with all the main characters.
I wish the novel had been more lengthy, but it was really great for a debut. I have already ordered the next two novels in the series!

This was a page turner for more than the first half of the book, then toward the end it turned into a sleazy graphic x-rated rag. The story starts out with the lead character talking about the situation she was in at the present and then takes you back to the beginning to see how she became a vampire. This is not your average Romance/vampire book which is what caught my attention and made me want to read it in the first place.
Here was a wonderful opportunity to make this book into a really good story, but when it went into the toilet, it sank. In my humble opinion, the sleaze factor way outranked the need for it. Too Graphic! I checked my wishlist to make sure that if this author had any other books out, I didn't want anything of her's on my WL.
I don't usually write reviews, but my disappointment in this one prompted me to add one.
Note, for those of you who want a more realistic view of the life of a vampire, if such things were real, this is probably as close to the real thing as it gets.

A tad raunchy at times (author continually uses one of my least favorite words). An interesting, yet grusome, idea of how vampires are turned and transition though.

New member of the 'bloodsucking fiends' writers guild, Jefferson provides just the right notes of scary and sexy.
