Oh my gosh, I am halfway through this book (I started it LAST NIGHT) and I'm completely hooked.  The story is amazing, the writing is excellent, and I love the character development.  I started reading it because I know it is a WL book, but now....I may have to put it on my keeper pile.   (I guess I'll make that decision when it ends...)

I just finished this book yesterday and I LOVED it!  Not my usual type of book at all, and I probably wouldn't have read it if I hadn't read discussions about it on here.  I was sooo lucky to get it as a damanged book and didn't have to wait for it to come up on my wish list.  And I didn't mind at all that it was damanged since I know both my niece and sister will read and love it.   Can't remember who I got it from but THANK YOU THANK YOU!  BTW I thought it was in great condition!  Has lots more reads left in it!

I've been waiting for the paperback to come out, but all of you are making me want to buy the hardcover!

I keep checking the UBS for it, but no luck. :(

I picked this up at the library for Mom to read while she's visiting...she says it's excellent and she's only just started reading it. I guess I'll read it after her and then take my name off the wishlist! :)

Have any of you read any of Sara Gruen's other books?  Are they as good as this one?

I've read Sara Gruen's other two books, Riding Lessons and Flying Changes (sequel to Riding Lessons).  Like Water for Elephants, these books are really good, also.  I couldn't put them down and had to stay up all night to finish them.  Her next book, Ape House, is due out in Summer 2008.

I loved it! I thought it had a great ending. I had eight hours stuck in and airport last week, I picked up a paperback copy there, it helped pass the time :)

I read it with my book group... I enjoyed it, for the most part, and was glad that we picked it, because honestly, I wouldn't have chosen it on my own :)

I thought it was an fantastic book. I loved his humor when he was telling Jacob's story from the present time period in the nursing home. And when relating the events from the past there was so many different aspects and emotions that he brought to life. I could not put it down and finished it in 2 days. The copy I read had an author interview where she relates real life events to events in the book which was really interesting.

The only caution I have is that the main story takes place in the 1930's well before PETA and animal rights so there are depictions of animal cruelty that may upset some readers.
