Hello-  I am trying to settle once and for all what I can and can't  mail from home or from a bluebox.

I have been mailing media mail items under a pound from home with no problem. Can I mail heavier books? I have searched the USPS site and

the limit seems to be under a pound, but I keep reading about people mailing heavier packages from home. What has been the general experience with this?

I have not been to the post office in about a month now... would like to keep it that way since the infection rate in my area is not showing any signs of declining.

Thansk for your help!

You can definitely mail them but you 'must' use printed postage & they have to either fit in the opening of the blue box (some have limited size openings)  or your postal carrier can stop & pick them up. They sometimes won't due to the size of the mail vehicle or if they have a foot route & carry a bag, etc. But you can ask and even if they don't normally, right now I believe many are making exceptions because they know customers can't get out as much.

I use printed postage & DH drops off at the PO for me. He drops them in the bin & doesn't need to go to the counter. We've never had any problems, even with multi-book larger packages.

Thanks so much! I generally print my labels from Pay Pal, so that should work as preprinted labels?  I would love to just put my items in the blue box- just having nightmares about them getting lost....

Yes, paypal printed postage is fine because it can traced back to you. That's the main reason why stamped (potentially anonymous) packages are restricted in weight.

Good to know. I am going to try it... fingers crossed! Putting packages in the blue box will make my life much easier!

I have mailed as much as 5 pounds of books with printed postage and no problems. I'm not sure if there is a weight limit, but I don't think so. I had the box of books with PBS years ago and once I received over 10 pounds of books in a box shipped by Media Mail. I would love it if someone would order 10 or 20 books from me and ask for a deal like 10 for 4 or 20 for 6 credits. I really need to send some books out. I have more than fit on my shelves and am having trouble keeping track of all of them. Too many people offered me deals I couldn't resist. Now I am trying to offer great deals, too. Thank you to everyone who checked my bookshelf and thank you to those who requested and received deals. I mailed out 14 books in the last two weeks. Yes!!

I use paypal postage for everything, not just books. So I played around with it. It would let me print a label for 65 lbs of books (would cost you $37.30). It won't let me print one for 75 lbs. Which says to me that you can mail at least 65 lbs of books.

We drop everything off at either the blue box by the post office or at The UPS Store, where they have a place you can mail USPS mail. You can also drop them off at the post office. I just don't go there often because of the parking situation and the stairs.

The weight limit is 70 pounds. If you are mailing something too big for the blue bin, you can just leave it on the counter at your PO, you don't have to wait in line since your postage is prepaid.
