I sent a book which is about to go "lost" according to PBS. I don't use PBS postage, because only three books have ever not made it to the destination, and at $3 per credit that is $9. If I had paid $.55 per book sent plus the fee for depositing money several times, I would have spent a LOT more.

I went to the tracking site. This is what it said... Now what do I do?

I would send a polite message to the receiver asking about it and indicating your delivery confirmation says it was out for delivery on July 5 and you hoped she had received it by now. You could say you hadn't wanted to rush her to mark it received, but since it was about to go lost you needed to contact the PO and have them initiate a trace. Sometimes a nice PM will prompt a member to 'suddenly' receive a book.  If they haven't received it then you'll know. They get their credit back and unfortunately that is the way the PBS rules work.

They said they didn't get it, and I can't put a trace on it because it went lost in pbs system so I can't retrace the address.

Call your local post office and give them the tracking number, their in-house system might have additional information.  If not, they can give you the contact number for the delivery post office.  Call and check.  There should have been at least one more scan, either delivered or returned (not deliverable, dead mail, etc).

After it goes lost, you can contact PBS admin witht the tracking number.  The don't always act on outside tracking numbers, but they might.

Please do take to your local post office.  They have additional information and often once they look into the matter the book is magically located.
