Old-fashioned language reads a little like a 70s soap opera (ie. "Why, that is just what I was thinking! " or "Why, how about we go on a picnic?") Too many references to his wife's pretty, slim figure in her eiderdown sleep robe. If you are looking for a satisfying outdoor adventure, make sure you read Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier, Into the Wild
by Jon Krakauer, and certainly all of Gary Paulson's goodies

The tantalizing story of a young couple's "trial year" in the wilderness in British Columbia. Right after they were married, Bradford Angier and his wife, both of them city bred, turned their backs on the civilities--and anxieties--of life in Boston and set off the the Canadian Wilds. This book vividly captures the feeling and flavor of their day-to-day life during each of the four seasons of a year. It also provides a basic "survival kit" for coping with life in the wilderness--the practical matters of shelter and food and warmth.
