These wonderful vignettes mostly deal with items out of place -- blue herons in Manhattan, a man sweeping the Sonoran desert, giant bison above the treelines in the Rocky Mountains, and each is beautifully crafted. The relatively low rating is personal -- vignettes frustrate the heck out of me. It's like being able to catch a whiff of something absolutely delicious being cooked, but then being denied the opportunity to dine on it.

I saw this author on Bill Moyer's T.V. show & he impressed me.

He is a master of short stories & descriptions. although some of his stories
seem to leave one wondering.
