A novel, set in the South Shetland, and the center of a thriving but punishing environmental sealing industry. The Seal slaughter saga is set in form, of a journal of young Jonathan Horn, stranded in the Antartic from a sealing expedition early in the 19th century.

In 1819, young Jonathan Horn becomes stranded in the Antarctic during a sealing expedition and adopts a young orphaned white seal as his sole companion

I loved this book. It was very visual. You could feel and smell the seals and the environment.
