A cornerstone mystery written and popular in Victorian times, this book contains the classic elements that are now become cliches: mysterious women, insane asylums, scheming noblemen and beautiful heiresses. But in those days they were fresh and new, especially one written from a woman's point of view. I like these old books: they're not hard to read like others of their age (Dickens for instance). Well paced with excellent writing, this book is good for a dark night and a cup of tea in bed.
