I think, had I read this book as a teenager, I may have enjoyed it. As it is, I think that Holden just served to show, in a timeless way, what nasty little buggars teenagers are. It was easy to imagine this in a current setting rather than 60-70 years ago. The writing had a nice flow to it, very easy to read. But this was a book that I just couldn't seem to like. This may be in part due to the fact that I read "Looking for Alaska" at the same time. The books were very similar, but because I liked the other so much, I think that may have made me like this one that much less. I am almost ashamed to admit that it took me just about 3 weeks to read this barely 200 page book. But I suppose that's just a testament to how bad I thought it was.

Ceremony in Death (In Death, Bk 5) (Audio CD) (Abridged)
Review Date: 2/13/2012

Somehow I wound up with the abridged version of the audiobook. I'm assuming this is why I never really connected with this story. There seemed to be alot missing, based on the flow of previous books. Everything was rushed. Still an ok story, just not my favorite.

I was given a copy of this book from the publishers via NetGalley, in return for an honest review.

The Chase is pretty classic Janet Evanovich. There's humor, adventure, comedy and a bit of understated romance. Fox and O'Hare make a good team, and I can easily see them hooking up in a future book. I was a little disrupted by the fact that I hadn't read the first book in the series, but it wasn't too bad. There were only minor mentions of the previous book.

Over all, an ok story and I would probably pick up the rest of the this series if I need something to read as filler.

Monthly book pick for my book club. This book was absolutely heart-breaking to read. I couldn't believe many of the things this child had to go through. I wish there would have been more details about what came of the abusers, but maybe that info was saved for the additional books. Overall, an ok read. Very descriptive and hard to get through some of the abuse.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Start to finish, I was intrigued by the characters. I think that had I not read the back of the second book before finishing this one, I would have been very surprised with the twist. As I did read ahead, I was kind of weirded out by where the story was going. But I got past that and still enjoyed the book. I am always hesitant to read books in a series because I like each book to have its own story with a start and stop, and if that doesn't happen, there isn't a clear ending to the book, I get frustrated. But this book ended well and with what I assume are minor stories that will continue. I think this is the first book that I've read since I finished Harry Potter, that I feel completely satisfied with the book. It is now among my favorites, I hope the rest of the series continues the same way.

This is a great book to do as bedtime stories. You can usually get in a few before time is up. Most of the stories were new to me, but there are a few classics in it. Illustrations are amazing, too.

This was the pick for my book club and I wasn't really looking forward to it. I was pleasently suprized to find that it was an easy read. Not at all like some of the other non-fictions that I had read. There were some parts that were slow-going and hard to get throught and it took a while to get used to the uneducated slang during the first part of the book. I wasn't happy with the ending, but only because it just ended. I'm sure you could look up the legal records to find out what happened, but it would have been nice to have it there for you

Whoa! I am not one to curse, but this was a total Mind F#@k!

I came into this booking thinking that it was going to be a Stockholm Syndrome turned love story. If that is what you are looking for, just stop now. It is no such thing. There is Stockholm, even the main character realizes that. There is, what seems to be, a love story. But be aware, this is no 50 Shades or Gabriels Inferno. This is flat out abuse in every form it can take. Mental abuse, physical abuse, sexual abuse, and everything in between. There were times when I actually contemplated putting the book down, I just knew there was no way for it to redeem itself. But, being one who simply must finish a book, I trudged on. And let me tell you, those last few chapters made it worth my while. I was up until 2 AM finishing this, and immediately wished that I could start on the next one. I even had dreams about this book. Out of the hundreds (thousands?) of books that I have read, I cannot recall ever dreaming about a book. Not like this.

I must say, Ms Romig deserves a giant kudos for this one. I spent the entire first half of this book trying sooo hard to figure out why on earth, anyone would buy the rest of this series after reading this. The answer came in the last chapter. There were times that I thought that I had the book figured out. I mean really, if the main character almost dies at the hands of the hero, there is really no coming back from that point. You just cant love that character. And I wont confirm or deny whether or not that happened for me, but I did find the ending to be very satisfactory, even though it was obviously left as a cliffhanger to entice you read further in the series. Which I will do

Holy crap! That was a long book! I loved the movie and was reluctant yet excited to read the book. In a way, it was better than the movie, but at the same time, the movie was just as good. I definately enjoyed the depth of the story that was written, but felt that a lot of it could have been skipped. I think if I ever reread it, it will be the abridged version, just to see what was left out. To see if it is what I would have been glad to have seen cut. Anyway, a good book, but I'd probably recommend the abridged version.

This one just didn't do it for me. For some reason it felt more like a Hiaasen than Christopher Moore to me. There were a few funny parts, and it took me until chapter 26 to realize there was a cross-over character. So not all bad, but also not very good. At least for me.

I don't think that I have EVER finished a book and wanted to immediately reread it. Sure, I have wanted them to continue or go on forever, but never felt the need to immediately reread. Until Crow's Row. I enjoyed this book that much. Originally this book received 4 stars. The lack of the 5th star was only due to what happened at and after the church scene. I've upped my rating to give it 4.5 stars now that I've seen that there will be a sequel, though I did get used to, and learn to love the presented ending. It made the book that much more credible. Sure there were some plot points and character flaws that made the story unrealistic, but I was in it for a great story, which I felt was delivered. Great debut Ms Hockley, I can't wait for Scare Crow!

I think that I'm still not sure what to make of this book. It was entertaining and I liked it. But it was a lot of work, even for me. Sadly, there were a lot of characteristics that I shared with the main character. Too many, and I think that made me a lttle uncomfortable. There were many times throughout the book where I had to stop and say, "hmm, is that why I do that...?" or "I totally get where he's coming from!" Very unsettling for me. I guess that overall, I liked the book. It would have gotten more stars if the entire book would have been about the mystery that started the story and if all of the math problems would have been solved instead of just one at the back. Now I have to get out a pen and paper and try to remember how to do the quadratic equation...

Pretty good read. It kept me gripped to the end, where there was a very surprise, twist ending. I can usually see twists coming, but this one got me. Good mystery.

I was given a copy of this book from the publishers via NetGalley, in return for an honest review.

Dark Paradise is not what I was expecting to read. Not necessarily in a bad way, but not in a good way either. The story its self was ok, actually it was good. I was hooked, couldn't wait until the next time I could pick it back up to keep reading. But when I was reading it, I didn't feel hooked. I was just reading to finish the book.

One big thing that I didn't like was that there were a few too many curse words. I'm not a prude, I just don't think that they were needed to tell the story. Another "pet peeve" if you will, was the non-ending. Up until I was on the last page, I didn't realize that this book was the beginning of a series. I'm not opposed to a series, but I do believe that each book of that series should have its own ending and wrap up the story line.

This next dislike is not really the fault of the author as I believe the other two things to be, but more a problem with me. I don't like to read books about tension between races. I know that this is something that happens, and more in the South where the story takes place, than where I'm from, but I don't like to read about it. Had I known that this was an underlying plot point, I would not have put in a request to review this story. It's just not something that I want a reminded of that people in our country take part in.

All that being said, if I haven't lost you completely by now, I will repeat that there was something about this book that kept me reading. I liked the characters, though I wish we'd have known them a bit better. Alternating view points is not something that I typically like when reading, but for Mala & Landry, it worked. I enjoyed seeing the story from both of their eyes.

I did enjoy the story even though it may not seem like it from my review. I would recommend it to people who are looking for a paranormal new adult book. It was nice to read a paranormal that was not about vampires, werewolves and the like. There is a bit of romance (less than I thought I'd be getting though) but there were enough twists to the love that it shouldn't bore anyone. Overall, Dark Paradise gets a solid 3.5 stars from me.

I was given a copy of this book from the publishers via NetGalley, in return for an honest review.

This book held my interest all the way to the end. Too bad the end wasn't really an ending. I don't mind reading books that are part of a series, but I'm a firm believer that each of the books needs to wrap up its own story. Dead Beautifu just ended.

I liked the characters, felt like we got to know each of them the right amount. They weren't too vague, nor too deep. And hopefully they'll delve just a bit deeper in the next book.

Overall, it was "ok +" or 3.5 stars. It was nice to read a teen paranormal that didn't have to do with vampires, zombies or angels. i'd recommend it to anyone who just needed a bit of filler or fluff.

I'm not sure how to rate this one. It was ok. I think that I was more interested in the research/medical project that was behind the main story line than I was in the mystery of the murders. This was my first book of Cook's, I was very impressed with the level of knowledge that went into it. And I hope there is a grain of truth in the work being done. It would almost make the murders of these men 'worth it' to know that their work was being carried on (and yes, I know it's a work of fiction!) I'm also not sure how I felt about the second story line, the insurance scam. At first, it seemed out of place, to have these two guys keep popping up. They never really fit into the flow of the story. Then at the end, they were neatly wrapped up with everything else, but that part too, also seemed to not fit in right. As I said, it was just ok, but I would read another by the author, just for the medical references/research.

I was given a copy of this book from the publishers via NetGalley, in return for an honest review.

"Deer in Headlights" by Staci Hart has been on my to-read shelf for a while, so I was very excited to be accepted by NetGalley. The book is pretty short, but still manages to tell the love stories of both mortals Dean and Lex, as well as immortal Aphrodite and her multiple loves. None of the tales were rushed, they all played out well, and in a very believable and satisfactory way. I enjoyed reading about the New York story line just as much as those on Olympus.

Overall, a cute little story that I'd recommend to fans of a good love story and/or tale of the Greek Gods.

This is probably the only time that I can say that I enjoyed the movie more than the book. I actually waited to see the movie until it was released on DVD because I thought the book was so bad. It just didn't hold my interest.
