It was with trepidation that I started this book. It is rather daunting to know you are the first one to have read a book on Goodreads and the first to write a review. My fear was that I would have to write a bad review.
I was very pleasantly surprised with this book. A coming of age hero story but with a different take on magic and the world building. Reminded me of two of my favorites: The Codex Alera and The Street Rats of Aramoor.
The characters are likable and well developed, the story line goes along at a good pace and the combat scenes are well written.
Highly recommend this book.

This is one of my favorite books (actually an omnibus of 2 of them). The characters are complex as is the mythology. These are not demons as they are normally perceived, but much more complex beings totally outside of Judaeo-Christian mythology.
It is how the characters grow within the plot line that is interesting, discovering previously unknown emotions and mores.

This book continues the series starting just after the events of Book 2. The Red Knight is back in Alba, continues to gather allies to battle the being known as Ash.
It is very readable with few moments of feeling like the story is dragging (unlike book 2.

I remember hearing about this great new series of books that HBO was making into a series in 2011. I started watching the show and started thinking; I remember that wall of ice, I remember this Jon Snow character and many other things.
Well turned out the series wasn't new and I had read the first book in the late 90's.
Saying this it is now 2021 and Martin has still not written the final books of the series.
I have since reread the books and I loved the HBO series at least until those last seasons when the series did not have the books to follow any longer.

I wish Martin would do what Robert Jordan's family did and let someone else finish the series for him. I would love to know what his original ending for the series was.
For great character development and characters you will always remember few surpass this series. I must for lovers so dark fantasy. But this series is responsible for my newest rule of reading "Do not start a series until the author has finished it."

This is the first book of the Belgariad. This is one of my favorite series. Magic, danger, warriors and much more. After numerous readings I still laugh out loud at the antics of Garion and his companions.
This series is a must read for any lover of fantasy
