Strange book about a real 18th c. German poet who falls in love with a 12 year old girl. It's supposed to be one of her bests. I didn't get it.

This is a wonderful book, one of the best I've read in a long while. It's a sequel to his earlier novel, "Jim the Boy" and is even better than the first, which is saying a lot.

I didn't think it was as good as the hype.

I liked this book very much. Kingsolver is a terrific writer whose characters always seem very real to me. The xenophobia of the '50's feels all too true with obvious parallels to today's political climate.

The word for this novel is breathless. It hurtles along at a dizzying pace unloading so much information that it's impossible to take it all in. That being said, I really enjoyed it. It seems very much a novel of today. I guess because the amount of information we receive on a daily basis has only gotten more so in the 18 years since the book was written. He covers the tech world, television and the media world, and high finance in a thoroughly credible way. I was lost in the details of stock manipulation but all the same, enjoyed being taken for this exhilarating ride.

I loved this book. Both sections, the first one in Africa and the 2nd in America, are beautifully written.

Really interesting world setting. The ideas about energy creation in an apocalyptic future were amazing. However, the book is not exactly a page turner because none of the characters are fully realized and frankly, not easy to care for. However for sheer inventiveness, I would recommend it.
