An Altogether New Book of Top Ten Lists from Late Night with David Letterman
Review Date: 10/12/2006

Top ten reasons to trade for this book: 10) We may never pass this way again. 9) Lists are easier to read than paragraphs. 8) Reading Letterman saves you the pain of watching him. 7) I need a credit. 6) You'll have a role model for writing your own dumb lists. 5) It's a cheap Christmas gift for your favorite enemy. 4) Hmm, I forget what number four is. 3) You'll learn celebrities' tricks for earning big bucks without doing anything. (See how easy it is? I'm doing it now.) 2) You can take the book in your car and when you see a homeless person with a sign that says, "Why lie? I need a beer" you can give him the book instead and rescue him from a terrible habit. 1) If you hated it like I did, you can always post it back onto the PBS website and some sucker will trade for it. Happy reading!

The Borrowers (Borrowers, Bk 1)
Review Date: 2/19/2006

Even better than the movie... this is a story about those miniature, shy people who quietly "borrow" things from human "beans" they live with. (In our family we call them the "wall elves"... maybe you have some living with you, too?)

I hated it! But if you like Gary Larson's bizarre humor, you'll love it. And since I hated it, it's still brand new...

Coyotes: A Journey Through the Secret World of America's Illegal Aliens
Review Date: 11/20/2006

This is a first-hand account of a "gringo" who crossed the border, travelled, and worked with Mexican illegals. It's fascinating and insightful. It has given me a new understanding, even respect, for those who cross, yet a greater awareness of the problems the migration is causing on both sides of the border.

The characters are terrific, the story is funny and sad and intriguing in a weird way. I thought it was a little too long, too much blah blah blah about fashions, and too many F-words. Other than that, I enjoyed it.

It is dumb, dumb, dumb. But if you are bored and ambitious at the same time, you can learn to crochet a suspension bridge. I think that alone is worth the price of a trade. Don't you?

This is a radio discussion of the novel by Robert Redford, Jim Lehrer, and others. It is an excellent accompaniment to the novel and would be great to use in a classroom setting.

This book changed my life. After years of chronic pain I have been pain-free for over four years. Dr. Sarno has a lifetime of experience treating patients and has written with great compassion, insight, and authority. His explanation of the syndrome he calls TMS is clear, understandable and practical. I highly recommend the book to anyone who has "tried everything" and who is open to a new approach.

"Inventive, exhuberant, and totally original literary fun" where a detective named Thursday interacts with characters from the classics, including Miss Haversham from "Great Expectations", and the villain from Poe's "Raven." Quirky. You'll even find something here from Beatrix Potter...

A Christian classic. Each day Chambers gives us a brief Bible verse and then takes us to a surprisingly deep and personal place as he meditates on that thought. If you are at all interested in knowing God better, you will be glad you found this book. Classy leatherette cover, too.

This is my favorite of all Grisham's books. Not only is it set in the usual corporate/legal world, but it takes you to the jungles of South America and the contrasting lifestyle and values of an American missionary woman. It's intriguing, thought provoking, and fun to read.

This is one of my all-time favorites. I have read it several times and own more than one copy! I love time-travel stories, and this one is not only that, but also part mystery, part romance, and part history. (I can't wait for you to meet Julia!) There are also lots of illustrations, old photos and sketches, to help us sense that we, too, are travelling through New York City's colorful past.

A rebellious teen has just moved to Florida with his mom when a woman in his apartment complex is murdered, leaving her baby behind. Keith takes off with the baby, hiding in the swamps, with the murderer, the police, and his mother all searching for him. I loved the evocative writing and the intriguing story line. And I always like to read about teens learning their lessons!
