An excellent history of the relationship between Elizabeth, the Virgin queen, and the most important man in her life, Robert, the Earl of Leicester . Gristwood does a fine job integrating scholarship with romance. Not at all a romance novel, but answers the oft asked question, what is the importance of sex in politics? Elizabeth managed/manipulated her court with a tight hand. She may dole out treats one day then, then slap the reaching hand the next. Her courtiers were all her pawns and she played the game better than perhaps anyone before or since. Leister, her Robin, her eyes, received honors above all others, yet she banished him from court on several occasions.
A well researched and provocative book covering most of Eliabeth I's reign, focused through the matrix of romance, sex and courtly love. A definite keeper.
I give it a full 5 stars.

Excellent book for the layperson to identify some of the environmental/food sensitivities that may be causing behavior problems.

The Latchkey Dog : How the Way You Live Shapes the Behavior of the Dog You Love
Review Date: 9/10/2011

This is THE BEST dog/human relationship book. To understand canine behavior you must understand pack sociology. The smallest loving action may set in motion the creation/development of the "Dog From Hell". The smallest loving action may set in motion the creation/development of the finest companion/friend dog you pray for. Good info for anyone who already has a dog, and especially good for the prospective dog human companion. A wonderful read, and a thoughtful gift for friends who already have a dog.
The first time I read "Latchkey" I learned that I MUST put food in my mouth before I fed my dog. I changed my behavior and suddenly any command I gave got immediate and full compliance. Alpha eats first, the rest of the pack eats by the grace of alpha. In feeding my dog, then sitting dowm to eat, I confused my dog/friend regarding which of the two of us was Alpha. Easy fix thanks to the info from "Latchkey"

Excellent historic novels. A journey through 666AD Ireland with all the language and culture woven into the mystery. Each in the Sister Fi series is as entertaining as the one before, and they are all wonderful. The author is a gaelic scholar of some renown, with scores of academic books on the subject to his credit.
