I enjoyed reading this book to 4th graders before I retired from teaching. I requested this book for my grandson who is now in 4th grade. He was excited to see that I had it when he came to visit for a weekend. He was reading it in his class at school. He was thrilled to have it here so he could read ahead of his class.... and stayed up late to read about 30 pages ahead! It is good stories like this.... that has encouraged him to keep reading!

This short book told a story that went on forever about the truths of the Holocaust. It reminded me that no matter how long ago this horror took place we should always be on "the watch" for such events and inhumane treatment of mankind. How this young man was able to survive and recall these horrendous times is almost beyond comprehension. Hard to read at times...yet hard not to read, hoping and praying that the end would finally come to all the suffering!

I have read this book in the past when I would share it with my fourth grade students. I am now retired and want to share it with my grandson. I thought it was a great story...funny at times, but thought provoking. It helps a young boy face some realities of life.
