Another great Falco novel! I love the narrative tone and the main characters. The movement from Rome to Britannia is deftly handled--but who knew Romans traveled as much as "our" people do! But did Lindsey Davis have problems with contractors when she wrote it?

I enjoyed all the personal interactions in the play. Annie and Ben are interesting characters, and the book does a good job of pointing out that the Amish are far from a monolithic group.

This was a great read, devoured simultaneously with other books in the series. At this point, interference learning & conflation is a problem for me, so I can't be more specific than "What a binge!"

The course works very well, although I wish it could arrived at the more informal use of verbs/pronouns earlier. The conversations seem to use normal speed, another plus.

Helpful Score: 1

I started this series "in medias res," immediately fell in love with Sir Baldwin, Edgar, and Simon, and quickly headed for the beginning of the series to see more of how Michael Jecks developed the characterization. The honorable Sir Baldwin, the former Templar, is the seems almost a too perfect noble knight, but even he can surprise both readers and friends. His detecting skills are, of course, outstanding, and the plot is a wonderful feat of narrative sleight of hand!
Of course, as I consider the West Country one of "bits" of England, this is an added draw.

Very sweet (I enjoyed both reading and re-reading it), but I fail to see how this is the first of the Bedwyn Family series...they are at best tangential here.
