This was the first Picoult book I've read ... I found it an enjoyable read. It kept my interest and Picoult did an excellent job of researching Amish life and belief system. I recommend this book to anyone who loves to be drawn into a story.

I enjoyed this book. The author does a wonderful job catching the personality and depth of each character. I especially like the chapters written as if each character were telling the story. Great read.

I fell in love with the main character, Meg. The story line and character development were great ... when you stop reading you find yourself thinking about the characters as if they are people you know in real life. What an amazing read ... I hope I don't regret giving this book up and yet I truly want others to enjoy the book.

My husband and I read this book together and while he kept saying it was "depressing" I found it an interesting story. I really enjoyed the writing style and use of descriptive language the author, Yasmina Khadra, uses. I would definitely read more by this author.

from the back of the book:

"Khadra's prose is gentle and precise ... Makes a powerful point about what can happen to a man when 'the light of his conscience has gone out'"
--The New Yorker

This was a great read. I loved the story line and the animals accurate analysis of humans. Would definitely recommend this to anyone who has a dog/dogs and knows that they, too, have feelings just like we do.
