The organization of the chapters - a chapter in the present followed by a footnote chapter a generation or two in the past - made it hard to remember who some of the characters were (siblings of the mother? the grandmother?) But it's worth sticking through to figure it out.

Very fast-paced & engaging, like The Davinci Code only the mystical part is based on Kaballah.

Hilarious in parts, but others sort of fall flat if you haven't traveled to the particular country he's writing about.

I loved the concept (who here wouldn't identify with someone who keeps acquiring books and can't possibly get through all of them?), but I found that I hadn't read or heard of a lot of the books he managed to read and write about in these essays, which made it hard for me to get too engrossed.

This is one of the few books I've read that I think is better as a movie. The extra details that are in the book (but didn't make it to the film) aren't all that compelling.
