"Every beast for himself!

Ginger Wald and her identical twin brothers, Nat and Pat, are lost in the woods. No problem. After all, Ginger did go to that stupid nature camp.

Still, there's something odd about this part of the woods. The grass is yellow. The bushes are purple. And the trees are like skyscrapers.

Then Ginger and her brothers meet the beasts. They're big blue furry creatures. And they want to play a game. The winners get to live. The losers get eaten..."

From Amazon.com:

"Because of Winn-Dixie, a big, ugly, happy dog, 10-year-old Opal learns 10 things about her long-gone mother from her preacher father. Because of Winn-Dixie, Opal makes new friends among the somewhat unusual residents of her new hometown, Naomi, Florida. Because of Winn-Dixie, Opal begins to find her place in the world and let go of some of the sadness left by her mother's abandonment seven years earlier.
With her newly adopted, goofy pooch at her side, Opal explores her bittersweet world and learns to listen to other people's lives. This warm and winning book hosts an unforgettable cast of characters, including a librarian who fought off a bear with a copy of War and Peace, an ex-con pet-store clerk who plays sweet music to his animal charges, and the neighborhood "witch," a nearly blind woman who sees with her heart. Part Frankie (The Member of the Wedding), part Scout (To Kill a Mockingbird), Opal brings her own unique and wonderful voice to a story of friendship, loneliness, and acceptance. Opal's down-home charm and dead-on honesty will earn her friends and fans far beyond the confines of Naomi, Florida. (Ages 9 and older)"

Brand New Teacher: How to Guide and Teach the Early Grades Using Scripts
Review Date: 2/23/2007

As a home schooling mother, I can personally attest to the value of scripts. When my own enthusiasm begins to falter, so does my children's. Even with a class of two students whose full attention should not be difficult to gain, boredom and distraction can set in. Scripts can rejuvenate the appetite for learning and serve as a blueprint for both teacher and student.

"WAGONS WEST

Strong men and courageous women struggle across an untamed continent to gamble their last dollar in overnight boom towns or die bush-whacked by outlaws. Some become valiant fighters in places where six-shooters keep the peace. No risk is too great, no depravity too low--when men catch gold fever and dream of quick millions, strong whiskey and wanton women.

CALIFORNIA! Men answer the siren of gold. Lonely wives fend off peril while husbands pan for nuggets. And Melissa, a red-haired Texas beauty, finds herself sold into shame by the man she loves. Former wagon master Whip Holt sets out to save her and joins Sheriff Rick Miller in a relentless search for two brutal murderers. "DREAM COME TRUE

Bethany Rose Stewart believed in dreams. They were all she had to sustain her during the endless chores and abuse her father dished out. One day, she knew, a handsome prince would come to sweep her away from the dreary isolation of Wildcat Hollow.

Bent on revenge, Adam Barwick was a man without dreams. And when he stumbled into Wildcat Hollow to retrieve his stolen horse, he was no one's idea of a prince. But after one look at Bethany, Adam was determined to take the defenseless girl away with him. Hard-eyed realist and dreary optimist, neither one could guess that in the white-hot crucible of their passion, dreams and reality would flow together into a glorious love."

"They were successful, beautiful, ambitious. Three women caught in a tangle of lies and betrayal. And one man held the key to their deepest secrets, secrets that could destroy their marriages, their careers, their lives...KATY--the quintessential California sunshine girl who had everything, the best life had to offer--and who nearly lost it all, one night on a dark, country road. TIMBER--the poor, genteel Southern beauty who wanted so much more than life on a dirt farm--and whose one single act of desperation made her a marked woman. FRANCESCA--the abandoned, unloved orphan who was determined to erase her past, to become every man's fantasy--and who in one shocking moment compromised everything she had to offer as a woman."

Amazing. Gay's photography is full of emotion. It brought back memories of my childhood, and made me long for a world that I don't think exists anymore. I think the passages that went along with each photo were just as profound as the photos themselves. Definitely brings you into the present. This copy has a small bookcrossing sticker on the spine and on the inside cover.
