Excellent book, as usual. The story follows the same format as several of the other Jack Reacher books (evil genious behind the scenes, controlling his minions through threats of death, working toward an evil goal) and Reacher of course defeats him. The setting and the characters are what make it different. His descriptions of the freezing winter conditions were very effective - I felt cold just reading them. The only problem I had was the constant counting down throughout the book - 59 hours to go. Then a few pages later, 52 hours to go. Then a chapter later, 48 hours to go. And so on. I found it a little distracting.

Very good, creepy mystery. All the ingredients are there - mysterious, isolated old house, creepy overgrown gardens, sinister underground tunnels...very atmospheric. The ending had just the right touch of horror to make it satisfying. A few parts were a bit predictable, but the rest of the book made up for it.

One of the best Jack Reacher books, in my opinion. Fast-paced, complex, and some nice twists along the way. Jack uses his past experiences and intuition, not to mention the other characters around him, to unravel a case that is not what it seems in more ways than one. The ending is intense and well worth the wait.

Well-written mystery; the plot entwines 2 similar murders separated by 200 years with some interesting twists at the end. The flashbacks to the first murder contain a lot of historical detail, which make them realistic. Unlike a lot of murder mysteries, in which the main character who is trying to solve the mystery is conveniently married to or dating a policeman or detective (who is able to give the main character information most people have no access to), this book has no such ties and Andy has to use her wits. I found it much easier to relate to her.

I got this book for my daughter, who is in 6th grade - it was required reading for her language arts class. Her comments: It is a very good book. All the characters are very funny. The ending was surprising. I think others kids would like it, too.

One of the best Jack Reacher books, in my opinion. Tightly written, well-paced. The ending is very satisfying.

Good mystery, combines thepresent with events from the past. The rivalry between the 2 main male characters got in the way of the plot a little, but the ending was a bit surprising.

This is the 5th book I've read by this author. I did not think it was quite as good as the others I have read - the relationship with the "long lost love" kept getting in the way of the plot and the author included a lot of expository paragraphs that slowed things down in a few places. There was an interesting twist near the end that I didn't expect, changing the identity of a main character.
