Forgive My Fins is the first book of the Fins series by Tera Lynn Childs.

Three years ago, Lily Sanderson lived all of her life in Thalassinia as a mermaid princess. But this changed, when she found out her mother, who is dead, was human. She decides to live with her Aunt Rachel and go to Seaview High, the same high school that her mother went. Aunt Rachel is the only human that she talks to that knows she is a mermaid. Lily has fallen in love with Brody Bennett. Shes convinced they are meant to be together because she believes they have so much in common such as the love of water. Brody Bennett is currently a part of the swim team, and ever since she saw him, shes been drawn to him. This is the main reason she decided to live on the human world.

Shannen, Lilys best friend, convinced her to ask Brody to the Spring Fling, but when she finally gets the courage, her attempt his thwarted by her next-door neighbor, Quince Fletcher. Quince always finds a way to push Lilys button. Quince tells Lily that he could help her pursue Brody. Why on earth would Quince want to help her? Can she muster enough courage to ask Brody to the dance, and if so, what will he say?

I loved this book. Ive always loved The Little Mermaid. Most young adult books out there now are darker, but this is a magical, upbeat book that fans of mermaids would delight in reading. I know I did. I definitely found myself laughing at the moments when Quince was pushing Lilys button. There is a second book out now, Fins are Forever.

Sofia Becker is a sixth-grade at Middlebrooke Middle School. She writes an anonymous blog for the school as the Blogtastic Blogger. Sofia hopes that the blog will increase her popularity. In this blog, she writes about gossip thats about teachers and students. Most of the gossip she hears she learns about when shes eavesdropping in the girls bathroom. She cant stand Mia St. Clare, so she often talks about her and other social climbers. Mia St. Clare is the most popular girl and apparently, Sofias crush Andrew likes Mia. Sofia is so angry. Will Mia snag Sofias crush? Will the blog increase Sofia's popularity?

I really liked this book. The drawings are so adorable. The book is described as A Blogtastic Novel, but its said that its a pre-blogging notebook. There are blog entries in the book, but its set-up on notebook paper. So, I was expecting something different.
I still enjoyed it though. This book reminds me of the Dork Diaries, so children or adults that like that series should like this one as well. This is a very quick and enjoyable read. Im a sucker for books that have cute drawings. The next book,Rumors from the Boy's Room, will be out in Spring of 2011. I'm not sure how Sofia will pull that one off, but I can't wait to find out.

Charlotte and her family are spending the summer in Charleston, South Carolina so her parents can make a documentary about old hotels and restaurants that are supposed to be haunted. Charlottes sister, Annalise, a college student, is helping as well. Charlotte feels inferior to her sister because shes everything shes not.

Annalise is short, beautiful, and all that most people talk about when both of them are around. She also feels inferior because Annalise is used as the chum, someone used to try to lure out ghosts. Some people believe that the person needs to be beautiful. Her parents always ask Annalise to and she is always stuck doing something in the background.

All of them go to the Courtyard Café to investigate a haunting. It doesnt go as it usually does. Annalise claims that she felt overwhelming sadness and freaks out. Charlotte convinces her to go in the restaurant again to see if they can figure out why it happened. Annalise feels the sensation once again.

This causes her to get her parents to agree to three things. One of them is to live in one place for a year for Charlotte because its her senior year. To Charlottes luck, the parents agree and also agree that they can live in a new house instead of an old Victorian house like usual.

Charlotte is actually looking forward to it because she never got to feel like she could leave a mark on a place because she was never around long enough to have best friends or join a team or club at her past schools. She meets Avery when loading stuff into their new house. Avery also has a pet dog with her named Dante, which immediately starts to growl at her. Charlotte says to herself that she hates that dog and learns later that the dog is sick. Could this be a coincidence?
Apparently, its not. Something is someone wont leave her alone. Will she find out why shes being paranormally stalked? Will she ever understand the dreams shes been having?

I didnt think Id like this book a lot, but I really enjoyed reading this. There were times when I guessed what was going on with the story and was right for the most part. There was something that happened that I never thought happened. I really felt bad for Jared. The whole school is against him. There are several times that he talks to Charlotte.

At times, I wanted to shake her and tell her to talk more to him. She doesnt though because of Avery. Right away, you can tell shes hiding something. I didnt hate Avery for it, but I didnt like how she would act about James. Theres always more to a story than meets the eye. I loved reading this and finding out what happened. Cant wait to read the next book!

Radiant Darkness is a retelling of the Greek myth about Hades and Persephone. Persephones mother, Demeter, is determined to make sure that Persephone stays a child forever. Every time Persephone wants to go with her mother to a festival or give away her dolls to the temple, her mother gets angry. Persephone never gets to leave her mothers vale. The most exciting thing that she does is visit her friends at another part of the vale.

One day, Persephone smells a flower that almost seems to beckon her. When she starts to follow the smell, she sees a path in the vale she has never seen before and goes down it. She eventually sees a man. This is the first man she has ever seen. When she tries to ask her mother about her father, Demeter usually says that is men are greedy and pointless, so Persephone decides not to tell her mother about what she saw. She quickly runs away before the man can see her.
She comes back to the part of the vale, but this time the man sees her.

After several meetings she realizes that the man is Hades.

I absolutely love Greek mythology especially the myth about Hades and Persephone. I've seen this book on Amazon quite a few times, and one day I finally ordered it. I really liked this book. I would have liked there to have been more of an emphasis on Persephones relationship with Persephone. The book seemed to focus more on Persephones desire to be an effective queen. I do like that her desire helped her grow as a person though. Anybody her likes books that are more based on the myth than a looser version will enjoy this book.

Helpful Score: 1

Amy and her friends, Katie and Luisa, are avid Otherworld fans. Otherworld is a book series that revolves around Alexander Banks and Vigo Skaar. When Alexander was 6, his family was killed by the vampire, Vigo Skaar. Ever since, Alexander has been training and became a vampire stalker, vampire hunter, in Chicago.

Amy, Katie, and Luisa went to Book Nook and got the second book of the series, The Mists of the Otherworld. Amy quickly devours the book and doesnt want to wait a year to find out what happens to Alexander, his cousin, James, and James vampire girlfriend, Hannah, who is also Vigos younger sister. Well, Amy wont have to wait that longsort of.

She went with her friends to the school dance. On her way home, she is attacked but a man quickly gets the attacker away from her. All Amy sees of the attacker is bright, silver hair. As she starts to thank her rescuer, she notices that hes dressed up like Alexander. He convinces her that he is indeed the same Alexander Banks from the book series by showing her scars that the character from the book would have.

Amy cant believe it. Unfortunately for her, Vigo crossed as well.and was her attacker. She lets Alexander stay in her familys apartment for a few days. She also teaches Alexander about some modern technology that will be to his advantage. As the attacks increase in the city, the more both of them worry and increases Alexanders determination to find Vigo and kill him once and for all.

According to Ms. Parker, Amys high school librarian, there is a portal that allowed Alexander and Vigo to come into their Chicago. As Amy gets to know the real Alexander, she finds herself falling in love with him as a mannot a character. As Alexander search for Vigo gets closer, she starts to worry what will happen? Will Amy lose the first guy shes even cared about? Will Alexander kill Vigo before more people are killedor worse turned into a vampire?

At first, I thought I would like the book, but as I read more into the book, I started to love the book. I loved Alexanders dialogue. It was definitely spot on for the dimension he came from. I loved the premise of this book. There are several characters from books I know I wish were real. I also loved learning about the book series. I would love it if the author wrote the Otherworld series or another book to tell what happened in the aftermath of this book. I loved the ending. I dont think therell be a sequel, but hey you never know. I wont be complaining if there is or not. I was that pleased with the ending.
