I was not a big fan of Water for Elephants, so I didn't have high expectations. I heard about this book from the Great Ape Trust website and was intrigued that Sara Gruen had done so much research before writing the novel. Anyone with interest in apes and language would probably enjoy this.

Well written and funny, this book continues to give insight into Billy's life. However, it also contains a lot of extranneous detail that may or may not interest the reader. Not enough Billy, too much other stuff.

Ron Currie Jr's writing reminds me very much of Kurt Vonnegut Jr. It's hard to explain the complex and crazy characters and plot twists. This, his first novel, is completely unique and engrossing.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is engaging in a way that historical fiction often isn't, with well developed characters and a plot that kept me guessing. It has the ambiance of Geraldine Brooks and the intrigue of Dan Brown. I look forward to reading the rest of this series.

This is the most beautifully written book I've read in a long time. I was moved to tears several times, and not just from the horrific depictions of war. The protagonist is such a well drawn character, I wish to know more of him.

As a parent, this book touches upon some of our worst fears. The characters are all very full and real. I found the book a little depressing, but worth reading.

I never felt anything for the contemporary protagonist, Hannah. Her story added nothing to the book and made it 100+ pages too long. I would have much rather known more about the historical characters that told the journey of the haggadah. I enjoyed those portions of the book very much, and think the historical realm is where Geraldine Brooks excels.

The book started out fast-paced and kept me interested. But about 2/3 of the way through it slowed down too much and the writing became redundant. I find Cornwell continually stating the obvious. This book could have used another edit, not her best work. But it's a good continuation of the Scarpetta story, if you plan to read the whole series.

This book is very intense. Told from the unique perspective of a five-year old boy. As the mom of a five-year old boy I found it disturbingly true to life.

Similar in its dark humor to Ferris' first novel "Then We Came to the End," but with characters that are more fully developed. I find Ferris' style very readable and his characters very relatable. The book starts out great, but slows down about 2/3 through and I found it hard to finish.
