i had wishlisted this particular book and finally recieved it . there are 4 afghans in this booklet . the colour choices that were used for the 4 afghans date it . i have a hard time liking any of the afghans . the leaflet as such is not bad .. its just that the afghans being presented are .....difficult to like ...

Benson & Hedges Presents Recipes from the Great American Inns
Review Date: 7/9/2011

good book, like all the benson and hedges cookbooks . had this book listed and had to cancel , since daughter was upset that i didnt ask her !! the recipes , for the most part , are very doable with basic cooking knowlege , albeit some are rather time consuming .not nessessarily a beginner cookbook . most recipes are not your average betty crocker recipes . and i have yet to have a recipe flop on me because of faulty instructions .

Best of Salads & Buffets: Over 325 Salads and Buffet Recipes
Review Date: 10/12/2013

this book originally was published in german . i own the german and the english edition . the authors were christian teubner and annette wolters . ANY book by either author is well worth getting . esp teubners books - he authored a few on his own . they are like cooking classes between 2 endboards . lots of pictures , many illustrations and every recipe has a picture . christian teubner won many german and european awards for his books . and the recipes are well done , often classics , but also recipes from other countries and peoples . i have NEVER had a recipe fail because of ill instructions -- ONLY if i changed something or goofed it up . if you like cookbooks .. this is a must have . VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !!!

i bought my first copy of this book after i was just married .... it has good recipes in it . the oysters bienville is especially scrumptious ... and look awesome on the halfshell . i have gotten lazy about shucking them and now buy a pint of oysters and make it in a casserole dish .... soo much easier !!! anyhow , we have made many of the dishes and can only recommend this book . not the newest on the market , not many pictures , but the recipes turn out right .

Better Homes and Gardens All-Time Favorite Hamburger & Ground Meats Recipes
Review Date: 5/9/2013

this is one of the first books i bought after i got married -- almost 30 years ago . it is one of those books that take a basic ingredient and make everything but the kitchen sink from it . it has some VERY good recipes . everything from appetizers to soups to meals ... and international recipes as well . very good in its variety . the only problem i have these days is .... hamburger is no longer cheap !! but ... some recipes require only a small amout of meat , one soup uses 1/4 th pound -- but its only for two and not great big servings either . i would recommend it if you are looking for new ways to use hamburger . defenitly .

this is a pretty awesome book about mexican cooking . i have owned this book for over 20 years and some of our most favorite recipes are in it . the recipes are pretty authentic [ what does a german know about authentic mexican recipes , except that we like them ???!!?!??] i have never had one recipe fail -- unless i goofed . my kids will cook out of it themselves . the ONLY reason i am ordering this book is , someone poured liquid over mine and ruined it . i recommend it .... [ my family would agree !!! ] .

one of the first books i bought when i first was married almost 30 years ago ] . very good book , easy to follow instructions and many good , satisfying recipes . not haute cusine or even yuppy food , but defenitly not your grandmas casseroles . since joining PBS i got a replacement for mine , the binding does not hold up well . thats the only drawback !!

any book by christian teubner is worth getting ! he won more awards for his books in germany than any other author i remember . his recipes never fail -- unless you goof up . and most importantly , he gives "GOOD" recipes . i own several of his books and wish i had some of his more acclaimed ones , but unfortunately many are out of print and thusly priced out of my ballpark . most times his books are a cooking school between two covers . highly recommended .

i got this book for my granddaughter , because i have loved enid blyton when i was a child . i have never seen or read any of her short story books . i read this book before i gave it to my granddaughter and i am glad i did . the writing is good , no clomplaints . the different stories are nice chapters for a girl 8- 10 or so . where i have a problem is , some of these stories have witches in it , that play pranks on people , sometimes to teach folks a lesson , other times to get something they want .there are other fairy tale characters that some people might find offensive . some of the stories are good [ and teach a lesson ] , but overall the few good stories do not justify to put up with all the rest .

Fibromyalgia & Chronic Myofascial Pain Syndrome: A Survival Manual
Review Date: 10/22/2012

i am a massage therapist , and bought this book originally years ago to help my patients . in the meantime , i have "aquiered" fibromyalgia myself . i have bought the second edition as well , as i wanted the updates . the second edition left out a few chapters . now i need to replace my first edition , as i loaned it out and didnt get it back .

this is an excellent book , very helpful and much information . it can be overwhelming . but i would recommend , to talk things over with your dr as some recommendations might be too much to follow on your own . [ speaking from experience here ] . this book will get you going to find and look for help that actually will help .

LOTS of illustrations and lots of recipies . really well done and interesting ..... i was going to post it .. but ... i am keeping mine !!!

this is one of my favorite books ! i firmly believe it should be read by anyone . as an ex-homeschooler , bookseller and lover of books , this book , in a nutshell covers everything i believe in about the power of reading and the love of books . sure ,there are probably smarter books written about the how an why of reading , but THIS book offers an example . ben darson started reading , when his mother made him read ever so many books a week . it improved his schoolgrades and was the basis of him going on to higher education . in todays times , when everything is electronical and books seem to get out of vogue and be replaced by ebooks , ben carsons biography shows that a library card and verocious reading can , in the end , help the man . BUT !!! what most of all impressed me , and made me cry many times , was his honesty that showed through the whole book about his total dependency on G-d . ben carson gives glory to whom glory is due and because of his humility in acknowleding this fact ,this makes it a book worth reading .

i have 3 children [ all over 20 ] and we have multiple copies of this book . they always fight over this book and it ALWAYS belongs to teh one who happens to find a copy . i got each of my kids one and it helps them understand basic cooking . son just requested a new copy as he can not find his . a very good book ! with LOTS of helpful illustrations , which make this book so valuable . also the recipes are not limited to basic cooking , but rather basic cooking is taught with advanced skill recipes . very highly recommended .

Greek Cooking - Traditional Recipes (Ekdotike Athenon Travel Guides)
Review Date: 4/2/2013

i have recieved this book today . i own several greek cookbooks , so i can compare . the "overall " LOOK of this book is nice . very glossy and many pictures of [probably ] most of the recipes . i would also say , that the recipes are more or less authentic . but this is then where it ends . i am a fairly good cook , i own over 2000 cookbooks and i KNOW what i am looking at . this is then where the book fails . to start with , the translation is often far from accurate . i would have thought , if the author is a celebrated chef , that much better care would have been taken in translation and proofreading . i have found many mistakes , where the translation just doesnt make sense --- [ or doesnt match what is shown in the picture ]. the measurements are questionable [ way in the back on the last page is a SMALL reference supposedly to explain WHAT measurements are used , but even THESE are not firm [ 120 - 150 gr of whatever ... 225 - 250 gr ] if you make something specific , you need more accurate weights then what this offers . the other gripe i have is , that the ingredient lists are often incomplete or wrong -- lists ingredients , but doesnt explain how to prep them or how to use . in one recipe it calls for 2 cups of oil , yet there is nothing said , where you would USE that much of this ingredient !!! in other recipes you come accross , where it says 2 tomatoes [ example ] but no mention how to prepare them to be used .

there is just too many variables and missing information . nowhere are any special ingredients explained or even a substitute recommended . some recipes use a horrendeous amount of ingredients , esp in the usage of beans . first of all , you dont know if the beans used are fresh or dried . then ... [ i have seen it !!!!! ] it says in another .. 1 KILO dried garbanzo beans [ excample ] for 6 servings ... do you know how much that will be when they are rehydrated ?? thats a lot of beans !!!!!

the author is supposed to be a celebrated chef ... maybe some of his recipes are measured for restaurant cooking , but i know , my family would tire of any dish , if i used 1 kilo of ANY dried beans ...

overall , i would not consider this a beginners cookbook . too many mistakes , too many variablles ... and because of the way the ingredients are dealt with , inaccurate ingerdients list . if you are a advanced cook and you know your way around the kitchen and know how to use your tools . you will find many interesting recipes in this book .

i collect cookbooks ... i have over 2,500 in my personal library . with this in mind , i consider this book a must have . there is a recipe in it , for a veggie sandwich , just for this recipe alone , this book is worth it !!!! this is one of the most awesome recipes and soo tasty . there are other good recipes in it , but this one tops them .
[ just remember , you dont have to bake the bread that daley adds ... i got lazy and buy some good subrolls ]

An Irish Country Doctor (aka The Apprenticeship of Doctor Laverty) (Irish Country, Bk 1)
Review Date: 12/28/2014

i have read part of the book and came to PBS to get the next books in the series . i really like his writing and it reminds me of james herriot books . although i think herriots writing is a bit deeper , more winded and better writing [ and clean ]. after ordering 2 more books , i went back to reading and can now no longer recommend the books as easily . even before this afternoon , i was taken aback by foul language and cussing . today came the groping scene between one of the main characters and his girlfriend , and somewhat descriptive kissing scenes . well , its not like we dont see some of it on TV , but i have choices to turn the TV off -- IF i choose to . and i choose not to recommend these books . i will not finish reading the one i have either . i DID !!!! enjoy what i had read ... until today .... soo , this set is not all that clean ....

Knits from the North Sea: Lace in the Shetland Tradition
Review Date: 7/17/2014

I just received this book , after having it on my wishlist for a long time . it is a colourful book , along the line of coffee table books. many nice glossy pictures . instructions are limited , just a bit of writing and the rest in charts . I like charts more than written instructions , so this is a plus for me . precursor instructions at the beginning of the book are [ I guess ] sufficient for the projects in the book . where I part friends with this book , are the projects . there are 16 projects in various levels of difficulty . none of these scarves , stoles and squares tickled my fance in so far , that I went ohhh or ahhh ... I really don't like any of them , which is the reason for me passing this book . I have found more exciting and pleasing projects on ravelry or even on drops designs ... so its not the book , its me . someone else would probably get all excited and make every one .
