Dear Members,

As the crocuses peek out bravely and the snow continues to fall in parts of the country, we at PaperBackSwap have declared that we are done with winter!  We're plunging into the next season with vigor, and the first step as always is...Spring Cleaning.  We're throwing open the windows, clearing out the cobwebs and getting everything nice and sparkling for the good weather to come.  So far, we've gotten as far as...the bookshelves.  You knew we'd start there.  Well, why not join us?  You can celebrate the end of winter by clearing out the old (books you've read) and making way for the new (books you want to read)!  Your Wish Lists are going to keep on delivering books, and what with all the Member Appreciation Book (MAB) offers and the increased Market inventory and Box-O-Books swapping and the ongoing activity in the Games Discussion Forum, you need to make some room.  Comb through those stacks and cull those books you enjoyed but that you won't read again - there are too many more books you haven't read yet!  Post your great reads here to share with other members, and save your sagging bookshelves.

It's also time to add a new bookmark to your browser, and start saving money in a new way!  In keeping with the philosophies of PaperBackSwap, we are pleased to announce the launch of National Brands Coupons.  This new site offers you hundreds of printable manufacturer's coupons every week, as well as links to coupon codes, discount gifts, and other moneysaving opportunities. Using National Brands Coupons helps to support the club, while saving you money!

Tell the crocuses to keep their heads up; a Happy Spring is on its way!

Richard and
The PaperBackSwap Team

MABs are fab! Member Appreciation Books have been very popular indeed.  A lot of you have been able to take advantage of these opportunities to get books for 1 Book Credit + the cost of shipping.  A lot of MABs are actually on Wish Lists, so when you get a MAB offer don't forget to check out all of the current MAB offerings from the link in the message at the top of your homepage - maybe some of your Wish List books are there!  You can read more about MABs in the Help Center.

At your service - At member request, we have made the number of members wishing for a book easier to see - it is now included in the "rollover" information that pops up from the book cover image; also, we've added a huge number of books to the deeply discounted Market inventory!  Sort your Wish List to show Market books at the top - find what's waiting for you at a superlow price.

Parkway School says Thanks for the Books!   We received a lovely note of thanks from the Principal of Parkway Elementary in New Jersey.  She sent along some pictures of the kids with their new books, and just one look at their smiles answers any question about why we do the Books for Schools program.  Thanks to all of you who contributed to the December 2012 campaign - we should have more thank-you notes and pictures coming in, and we'll be sure to share them with you!

On the Go -  Now it is a lot easier to mark incoming books received from your mobile device.  PBS Mobile is a stripped-down version of the site that allows you to search for books, view your account Bookshelf, Wish List and Reminder List. Now there is a "Mark Received" button that will let you mark incoming books received in a snap!  PBS Mobile is accessible from the link at the top left of your mobile browser when you use it to visit the PaperBackSwap homepage.  Read more about PBS Mobile in the Help Center.

SAVE THE DATE!  Our Tour Guides are already at work planning our next Cruise for PBS Members to coincide with PaperBackSwap's 10 year Anniversary.  The proposed dates are October 19, 2014 - October 26, 2014, and the plan is a 7-Day Western Caribbean cruise sailing from Tampa. Watch this space, and stay tuned to the Club Member Thoughts Discussion Forum, for more details as they become available. Remember, friends and family are welcome too!

Mary W. (fluffypuppy)

Mary has been a member since 2007 - she's swapped nearly a thousand books so far, and has a perfect sending record (no problems, no unreceived books)!  She's very active in the Games forum and has quite a following there.  Some of the comments we got said:

"Mary W. (fluffypuppy) is such an asset to PBS! She's funny and generous and makes the site a happier place to be."

"Anyone who has played in the games forums knows what a light she is there - she watches out for the new hostesses, making sure we know what we are doing and that we have enough people for our swaps. She keeps every swap she is in enthralled with her antics! Mary, Thanks for making PBS so great."

"Fluffypuppy," you are a lot of swappers' best PaperBackSwap friend! You are Member of the Month for March.  Congratulations!

If you have any nominations for Member of the Month, submit them to us hereYour nomination will not "expire"--anyone you nominate will have a chance at getting Member of the Month if enough nominations accumulate over time. Each month the person who has the most votes accumulated when the Newsletter goes to press gets to be Member of the Month and gets a newsletter mention and a nifty MoM icon to wear on profile and forum posts with pride.  So go for it! Tell us who's helped you in the Forums, who's been a great swapper, who in your opinion is a credit to PBS.  We are keeping a list of all the nominated members.  Who knows--one of them might be YOU!

Dear Librarian - I see a MAB on the list that I know my mom would love.  Can I send a MAB to someone else (not myself), and still pay only shipping + 1 Book Credit? - Daughter in Dallas

Dear Dotty,

Yes, indeed!  To do that, just type in the recipient's name/address while checking out of the Kiosk. The MAB will be sent to the person/address you supply, at the cost to you of shipping and 1 Book Credit.

Dear Librarian -  What is all this about MABs?  Why haven't I gotten a MAB offer? What do I need to do?  - Left Out in Lexington

Dear Lexie,

Remember that MABs are unpredictable!  They can pop up anytime.  If you don't have a MAB, you should be sure (1) that you are logged in and looking at the top of the Homepage and (2) you have chosen favorite genres for your account - the system doesn't know what to offer you unless you have done that.  You can choose your favorite genres in two places:

  • on your Homepage (below the Message of the Day box):    http:/www.paperbackswap.com/home.php
  • in your Account Settings:   http://www.paperbackswap.com/members/profile/account_settings.php#fav_genres
Once you've done that, just keep checking back on the Message of the Day box at the top of your Homepage to see if your luck is in!

 The Last Word:

  • Newsletter image As always, don't forget to start your Amazon shopping from the link at the top of the PBS site - when you do this, a small percentage of your purchase amount comes to us.  So whenever (and whatever) you plan to purchase on Amazon, start from the Amazon link at the top of the PBS site. It's an easy, free way to support the club!
  • Are you NOT reading the PBS Blog?  You won't believe what you've been missing!  Check it out from the link under Community at the top of any page on the site.
