Dear Members,

One thing we love most about PaperBackSwap is how our members remind us of what's really important - and not just at Christmastime. Sharing is part of every PaperBackSwap day.  And every time Books For Schools comes around, our members truly shine!  This year, you generously gave enough credits and PBS Money to get almost 25,000 books to children at 24 elementary schools all over the country, where the children love books and want to read, but the school libraries are lacking and there are no books at home. Your gift of books will mean so much to the children - not only as a sign that the world is a kind place, but also that the love of reading is a great gift, and one that we hope they keep forever. The principals and teachers of past participating schools have told us how wonderful it is when the PaperBackSwap delivery arrives, and how the faces of the children light up at the sight of the books.

Thanks to all who donated, for giving some extra joy this season!  If you missed giving to Books for Schools this year, don't worry - we'll run another campaign when we can. The sliding message display at the top of the Home page will alert you if there is an active donation program in process.  (To suggest a school for inclusion in the program, submit the details on the Suggest-a-School page.)

Every PaperBackSwap member is part of a giving tradition, every day of the year. We hope everyone gets a chance to put their lists aside and take some time out - with family, with friends, with a book - just to enjoy. Give that gift to yourself - you deserve it!

A very Merry Christmas 2013 from all of us,

Richard and
The PaperBackSwap Team

Chris F.  (BookLynx)

Chris has been a member since 2007; he's one of the Book Image Approver elves who helps to improve the accuracy of club listings for the benefit of the whole club! He has sent out over 1500 books and although he hasn't sent out a problem book, he has shown kindness when others have made mistakes. He is also really patient with the PaperBackSwap Team, when we're overwhelmed with tasks and take some time to get back to him about his book image inquiries - we really appreciate his forebearance!

"Chris requested a book from me and I sent it to him - unfortunately, I sent a paperback instead of a hardcover by mistake. I felt terrible! But from the first note Chris sent me mentioning it, he was super-friendly and understanding about my error. I have been very impressed with not only his attitude, but also the way he handled telling me about the situation. He is a great example of a flexible and understanding PBS member!"

"Chris is very active in the image team forums, and frequently goes out of his/her way to find useful image information, break down the technical aspects and share it with the rest of the team in a timely fashion. He is an unsung hero of PBS!"

Chris, you're the picture of a terrific PaperBackSwapper. You are Member of the Month for December.  Congratulations!

If you have any nominations for Member of the Month, submit them to us hereYour nomination will not "expire"--anyone you nominate will have a chance at getting Member of the Month if enough nominations accumulate over time. Each month the person who has the most votes accumulated when the Newsletter goes to press gets to be Member of the Month and gets a newsletter mention and a nifty MoM icon to wear on profile and forum posts with pride.  So go for it! Tell us who's helped you in the Forums, who's been a great swapper, who in your opinion is a credit to PBS.  We are keeping a list of all the nominated members.  Who knows--one of them might be YOU!

DEAR LIBRARIAN

Dear Librarian -  I am subscribed to Gold Key Membership, and I just discovered the option to search my Friends' Bookshelves on the Book Browser! But there are so many books - is there any way to sort those books by author? - Loving Gold Key in Lovettsville

Dear Lovie - Sure, you can sort the Gold Key Friends Search results by author!

Just go to your Friends List, click the Gold Key Friends Search icon at the top of the list, then on the page that comes up with the search results, look on the lower left for the "sort by" heading. Choose "author" under that. You can also choose Ascending or Descending alphabetically. Then click "Update Results" to apply the sort.  We hope this helps!

For those who are not yet Gold Key members, you can read in the Help Center about Gold Key membership - it's $12.99 for a year's subscription and from what our members tell us, it is well worth it!
