As a woman, I was deeply offended by this book. This book is 127 pages long, but only about 3" x 4" big. So I was not surprised to find it contained very little information. I was, however, surprised to find that the information it contained was worthless.
Offense #1: This book dedicates eight pages to the tools that you will need, including pictures. For all of you women who may not know what a wrench or a plunger looks like. One of these tools is "A helpful friend". Better yet, why not just use the only skill women possess. . .Charming a man to come and do the job! Seems to me, this book suggested such an outlook on a womans usefulness.
Offense #2: The book goes on to explain, in pages and pages of great detail, how to do things like, shut off a water valve, lighting a water heater, plunge a toilet and a sink, adjust a tanks water level, remove objects from the trap in a sink, scrape old sealant from your tub, and unclog a sink spray with vinegar. With only a handful of other, equally simple tasks.
Ill admit that if anyone out there has ever hired a plumber at $150 an hour to come and plunge their toilet, then this book is perfect for you. But in all my years, I have never met a woman who couldnt do this on her own. And to imply that women need a book to show us how to do these very simple tasks, was not only offensive, but down right aggravating.
This book addresses the things that constantly go wrong in any home. Therefore, the issues that most of us have seen our own mothers fixing as we grew up. And could fix on our own, long before we even owned our own home.
Shame on the writers and publishers of this book for marketing it to women. It should have been marketed to individuals (men or women) who have somehow made it through to adulthood without ever seeing a plunger. In other words, people with no indoor plumbing!
If you are expecting a large book bursting with information on replacing damaged pipes in your home, installing a tank less water heater, replacing a single sink with a double sink, fixing REAL plumbing problems that require more than a plunger or any of the other things you might do to repair or improve your home, Id suggest passing on this book. Youd be better off picking up a book meant for men. Ahem. . . I mean everyone other than women!
