This book is exactly why I love PBS. I would never have picked this book up in a store, but when I saw some interesting reviews on PBS I figured I'd give it shot, if I didn't like it I could just ship it back off...
I have to admit, I became so angry at the main character in the first half of the book that I put it down thinking I couldn't pick it back up to finish it, but the next day I did pick it back up and was grateful. A very colorful and descriptive story of life in Afghanistan that chronicles a boy's growth from insecure and selfish to an honorable manhood. The story is violent and disturbing at times, but ultimately redeeming. The Kite Runner is definitely one of the gems I've found on this site.
