In this 5th installment, Eve must balance between loyalty and duty. She is investigating the death of a fellow policeman, the same officer that trained Lt Feeney, her own trainer and more importantly friend. Under orders from the commander, she is instructed to conduct the case in secrecy. She is led thru a world of black magic, satanism and violence. After the funeral she was appoached by the officer's grandaughter with a story of murder and abuse, but before Eve is able to question her she is killed. When Feeney discovers Eve's undercover work, he feels betrayed and angry and lashes out to her. So not only does she have to discover an evil murderer, she must figure out how to repair her relationship with Feeney. It was a fast paced book and I strongly recommend this book, although the flashes of black and white magical worlds are a bit different.
I am now off to read book 6th.
