Sarah leaves Halifax to travel to Calgary for 2 purposes - to meet her future husband, a surgeon with the RCMP and to search for her brother. John has no idea that his men have been corresponding with Sarah and have sent for her as his mail-order bride. Furthermore, he thinks it is all a joke and plans to send Sarah back to Halifax. What John does not expect is a stubborn, capable female who is having none of his plans to sent her back. Due to a badly misunderstood situation, John is "forced" to marry Sarah. However, John sees everything in black and white so he questions all she says and does and puts his work always first before her. John likes Sarah's courage and beauty but he does not trust her and as she searches in secret for her brother, a wedge is driven between them. I liked the way the conflict between John's view of the world as all black or all white is played against Sarah's view of the world as somewhat gray. Conflict, humor, courage, suspicion, and love all are played out in a very well told story.
This is the first book I have read by this author but I will be looking for more of her RCMP stories.
