Sometimes actors/actresses resent being confused with the characters that they become famous for. Despite Shirley's denial of this, I think she goes out of her way to shock us with very personal details, trying to shake the Partridge family image. Remember that catch phrase a few years back - "too much information!"? That phrase kept running through my head as I read this book.
