I didn't expect much from this book because of all the hype. I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, the author was self-absorbed and the cause of most of her problems, that was the point. This book was her story of her journey, how could it not be self absorbed?

It appears that after her year of introspection she discovered it wasn't anyone elses fault she didn't like her life and figured out what she wanted. Ok, so she had the ability to indulge a year of her life to try to figure things out - lucky her. However, many people spend their entire lives try and never figure out how to balance their checkbook let alone how to be content. Good for her.

I liked her friendly humerous style of writing and found this to be quite a pleasant read. While I am not consumed with the desire to run off to an asharam in India I wouldn't mind a few months in Italy.
