I read this book so long ago as a teen, and I read it over and over again. I still have my original copy! Hard to express what is so wonderful about it...a parent's love and determination for sure. More though, it is Karen's determination, and the awakening to all of us who are unafflicted by any type of handicap...that there is a bright, wonderful human spirit inside of everyone. Don't judge on appearances. The best of books to be read by anyone at any age. Children should be given the opportunity to read this as soon as they are able to understand.
