An Unfortunate Incident four years ago leaves Emily Faringdon with a tarnished reputation. But Simon Trahern pays no attention to the rumors and turns his attentions to Emily. She falls in love with Simon, only to have her father tell her that Simon is only calling on her to get revenge against her family. Simon does want revenge against Emily's father, and knows her genius at financial matters is the only thing keeping her family afloat. Emily confronts Simon about the accusations. He doesn't deny wanting revenge, but swears she is not a part of his plan and he would never hurt her. In fact, he wants to marry her. Emily agrees believing that Simon will come to love her and eventually learn to accept her family.

I usually enjoy the older Amanda Quick books, but this one was a bit disappointing. Emily may be a genius at making money, but she is a dingbat when it comes to Simon. No matter what he does, she smiles and accepts it. Simon comes off as cold and overbearing. I understood him wanting revenge against certain people, but not their innocent family. The saving point of this book is the amusing conversations and references to "The Unfortunate Incident". My rating: 3 Stars.
