I was so excited when I started reading Maxwell, thinking I have found a new author. Now I am beginning to think she is one of those that just recycles the same ideas over and over again.

If you have read "The Lady is Tempted," you have basically read this book. It the same down to the ending scene except this one was written better. Charlotte is a stronger and wittier version of Deb. Phillip is just like Mr. Aldercy forcing Charlotte to become a mistress instead of a wife. At least he doesn't harp on how Charlotte isn't good enough to be his wife as much as Mr. Aldercy did. Their love scenes were also better, more loving.

So even though I enjoyed it more than "The Lady is Tempted" and it was definitely more fun, I still gave it a rather low rating because Maxwell basically swindle me with selling me the same book with some minor changes. I will check out a few more of her books from the library but I definitely wouldn't waste any credits or real money on her in case she doesn't have any new ideas.

By the way, the ending is left somewhat opened. Maybe it will be addressed in the next book.
