A book about America, written by a Brit!
Chapter headings: "A Passage to America; The New-Found Land; A Home Away From Home; Making a Revolution; Inventing a Nation; Gone West; A Firebell in the Night; Domesticating a Wilderness; Money on the Land; The Huddled Masses; The Promise Fulfilled-The Promise Broken; The Arsenal; The More Abundant Life".
The first chapter commences an examination of what white man first discovered America and the exploration of America. The final chapter examines modern America, including Las Vegas, communes, and segregation/integration under armed guard.
Many photos, black and white and color and drawings.
The book is an ambitious undertaking. Due to subject matter and length of book, the author had to be selective in topics he covered. However, the wide variety of topics touched on are truly representative of the diversity and complexity that is America.
