The setting is in Alaska, 80 centuries before our times. At that time, babies born with any deformities were thought to be harbingers of evil for the village. They were then left outside to die. The story centers around Chakliux, a baby boy born with a club foot. He is rescued by a young woman, K'os. The baby comes from an enemy village. Previous to finding Chakliux, K'os had been beaten and raped by 3 men from that village. She chooses to raise Chakliux herself. Because of her violation by the 3 men, K'os grows cold and bitter as the years go by. With cunning she plots the destruction of the 3 men with Chakliux as her weapon.
