This is the story--from Sebastian Junger's research--of Albert DiSalvo, convicted of crimes attributed to the Boston Strangler, and of the related case of an African-American man arrested and jailed for what might have been one of the strangler's murders. Because the final guilt or innocence of both of these men was never finally determined and both of the men are dead, Junger is faced with how to handle the writing of these stories and the whole issue of the Boston Strangler murders.

An interesting twist is that Albert DiSalvo worked on a construction project in the home of Junger's parents when he was an infant; the Belmont murder occurred only blocks away, and was done while DiSalvo was working at the home. Junger's own mother believed DiSalvo committed the Belmont murder, and that the black man convicted of it was innocent.

Junger does a masterful job writing this, including his backs-and-forths on what he himself believes as he researches the facts about both cases, and the audio book is well read. I recommend this book to those who enjoy intriguing tales based on fact.
