On 3 different occasions, complete strangers had told me that this was their favorite book. Like many others have said...this is not the type of book I would normally read. I finally broke down and read it and boy I wish I did not wait for so long. It was EXCELLENT and I may have to agree with these "strangers"
I was afraid that it would involve too much history and being that it takes place in a foreign county...would I really understand it? The author grabs you right from the beginning and yes, it is easy to understand. It is really more about the relationship about 2 boys and human nature. While the author does not go too heavily into the history and war, there is enough information there for you to know what is going on.
I found it very difficult to put this book down once I began reading it. A very emotional book written with depth and feelings. You will stop and be thankful that you live in America. I plan to read this author's second book.
