Was Dan Brown watching the X-Files while writing this one? Some simularities in plot....

I'm not sure what order his books were written, but this one is much better than Angels & Demons and Digital Fortress. The ending is more seamless with the beginning, and the book's action takes off sooner, so there is less wading thru preliminaries. The main characters are also introduced in a less rapid fashion, so you'll be able to keep them streight right off the bat.

Something is under the Ice on the polar cap which will prove extratrestrial life introduced life onto the Earth, and some people will go to great lengths to have it introduced to the world.

Who is using who?
Will the good guys or the baddies prevail?

This book has the best ending of any of Dan Brown's and is the first of his books I can honestly be enthusiastic about.
