This novel didnt impress me as much as other reviewers, but I may be jaded, having read and seen many political imprisonment stories at this point. Septembers of Shiraz is moving, though for me that had to do more with the quality of the writing than the plot. The sections in the sons point of view seemed superfluous. Its true that he was in a different country from the rest of the family, but he could easily have been in a different book as well. I found the young daughters experiences the most interesting and engaging, but they received the least amount of attention from the author. That said, I would read this author again, as she writes very well.

For people interested in the time period: I read 'Daughter of Persia : A Woman's Journey From Her Father's Harem Through the Islamic Revolution' (non-fiction) years ago and found it interesting and informative.
