So much of life is made of things
Not said or done.
So much is made from things
We did so very wrong.
The good is not within
And neither is the way.
Yet when I look at man
I feel myself take hope.
Beneath the mess and all
The evils we have caused,
I see the noble creature in our breast.
I hear our songs echo across the hills.
We wrote these haunting tunes!
I see the works our hands have made,
From tiny things to giant bridges
Spanning gaps that freeze the heart.
We made such things and more.
For sure so much of life is wrong
With none to blame beyond ourselves.
But I can see the hand of God.
For all our flaws
We have a spark of fire.
