I  think you are making the math harder than it is. The system will auto rank the books for you and notify you two weeks in advance if one needs to be moved up because someone might pass you. If you put a new book at a high ranking the rest will automatically move down, you won't have to do it yourself. You don't need to do any math on the new system.

Call me crazy, but I'm actually looking forward to the new wishlist.

Sorry - I know that there are a lot of members that advocate making all books on the wishlist auto request, but I'm not one of them.   I LIKE the 48 hour waiting period - even if right now it is causing problems because a book can go through several wishers before it is accepted.

Hmm.  Where is my post? I posted on this thread.

I think people are stressing out way to much over this whole thing.  They created the website, they have the experience with the system. They have taken a lot of time to work out a system and any changes that are being made are being made for a reason.  It's a book trading website for fun, not the end of the world.

Yeah I noticed that afterwords.  I thought I was having a serious deja vu moment.  I knew I had read the Math Mensa part before.  I  thought I had forgotten to hit send.

I don't want an AR system.  I may have upwards of 67 books on my WishList.  I may REALLY REALLY want only 25 of them right now.  I wouldn't want to waste a credit on a book that I could wait longer for; but would like to stay in line for all the books in case I need / want them at the time they are ready for me.  I usually have 5 credits in my account and if I get to 2 then I will pass my Wished Books on to the next person until I am able to send out a book and get another credit b/c I don't like being that low on credits.

I just rechecked my list on DVD and I misspoke earlier when I said you could have more than one  at #1 but, I did just have a thought...the BIG thing here is it keeps you involved in the site...it will take working and adjust position to get your books moving up the list like you want so, then you are either an active member or your wishlist just kind of sits there and doesn't move up the list.  THAT I think is a VERY good thing.

But, I really think before people start complaining and bashing R&R they need to let the system get in place and actually try it.  Sure there may be a few kinks but, the current system has those.

just my 2 cents

"I did just have a thought...the BIG thing here is it keeps you involved in the site..

You mean chained to the site, if we care enough to keep up with the ranking game. And those who don't have the time to play it will get elbowed back."

I don't think this is true. I use the "new" WL at both SaDVD and SaCD and I haven't looked at my WL on either site in about a week. There is no reason to look at it more often. There really is very little manipulation to be done and none that ever needs to be done.

And I do get WLed items from both sites.

And, if you you add a new item to the #1 spot, everything else automatically gets bumped down. You don't have to go and rerank everything.

It's a fine system. Relax.

Well, I have some idea. It seems to me that you're very involved in all of this.

Some members are using the new WL as a RL by putting the RL items on hold at the bottom of the WL. It seems to work for them.

As I've said before when this subject came up - I LIKE having both my WL and RL on the same page.   It keeps me from flipping back and forward from one page to another.

It's only complicated IF you choose to let it be.   I have plenty of books to read, so I will let the site do my ranking and be happy whenever I get a wished for books.   VERY similiar to what I do now.   I put books on my wish list now, and never check on them.  When they come available, I am thrilled but I don't stress it it takes awhile.   I have a LOT of books to read while waiting.

This is a pointless thread, except to let some members vent about the upcoming change.  Which, I admit, can have some importance...

Nothing we say or do here is going to change the fact that it is coming in the future as soon as R&R can implement it.

Personally, I'm totally against the new changes (except unlimited books on WL), but you can read my rants in other forum threads.  Just posting this as I do every time this subject comes up to register my opinion, even though I know it doesn't matter when it comes to this subject.

call me weird, call me crazy but, I for one enjoy change and I'm looking forward to the improvements that are coming.  I totally dislike having a WL and a RL, I love the thought of having them both on the same page.  I'm with Cozette I have plenty of books to keep me reading and IF there is a book sometime that I really really want then I'll bump it up on the rating of wanting it first, otherwise probably won't worry about how they are ranked...well maybe books that come in a series I'll make sure #5 isn't ranked higher than #3 but, other than that, surprise me.

I think everyone is getting a bit too intense and grumpy about the change...

I also have a wish list, and when I get a book, I get a book. I am not going to stress over it.  I like change in my life sometimes. I also have plenty of books to read and if and when I get more, that is great!

I must have missed a newsletter. When/where was this announced? This is a huge shock.

I found the ranking system puzzling when I joined DVD swap and was thankful that it doesn't work that way here. Now it seems that it is coming here too.  That's really discouraging.

I did a quick count of my wish list books based on request date.  I have over 50 books that I've had on my wishlist over 2 years.  On most of them I am finally in the top 5.  With this new system I may never get many of them.

This is probably the worst thing they could do from my perspective. It seriously devalues the service if I have to work and run probabilities on how to rank my selections to maximize my receipts.  This is supposed to be fun not statistical analysis. I get enought of that at work...

Rona if those books have been on your wish list for over 2 years they will have gotten so many points that only someone who has had them LONGER than you could pass you, even if you rank them fairly low.   It has been in the forums for months and was in one of the Monthly newletters, I'm not sure which month.

are they changing the wishlist system?

I feel that I will be waiting forever and ever till I get some of my wish books. All the books I have gotten so far

are ones that i see and order.

I'm also one of the very few who is interested in the changes... then again i am NOT a member of swapadvd so I havn't had experience with it at all. Maybe i'll hate it when it's implemented, but i sure am eager to see what it'll be like.

I absolutey hate the fact there isn't a separate RL on CD and DVD.

I like the fact you can put WL books on hold (about the only thing I like about the change, and I don't think it needs to be tied to ranking).

But I don't want all my RL books on my WL. Pain in the butt.   Most of my RL list I don't want on my WL, I want them separate.

I don't see why implementing ranking has to result in removing a very useful list.  Leave the RL for those of us who want a separate list.   That way everyone is happy--at least in regards to hold/RL books, if not about the WL itself.

I settled on PBS in a large part because of the WL and because I didn't have to be chained to the site.  I get books somewhat steadily.  I can just ignore the site--I list my books, I list my WL, then I answer my mail.  Nice!

I'm not convinced on SaCD that this is happening.  It's a lower volume site so it's hard to compare, but it's a struggle to maintain my position on CDs that have more than one wisher, and I only have about 50 real wishes there. (The rest are on hold, and used to be a reminder list and I wish most of them still were separate!)

And please don't tell me to 'relax'. You're assuming you know how involved I am in all this, and you have no idea.

*looks around in a daze*

This is books we are talking about right?

Whenever I get upset or uptight about something online or something I ordered that isn't medical / health related I put it into perspective and realize that wasting negative energy on it will only hurt me.

I too am skeptical about the changes coming up, but Bob seems to me to have the right idea.  I'm going to relax.  :)
