From the Book Bazaar rules:
Requests for buying or offers to sell credits. This can be done via any payment method the seller likes, at the price the seller wants
However, I do wonder if there isn't a grey area involved considering the payment requiring purchase at another commercial site. While PBS does have a bit of a partnership with Amazon (e.g. purchase from Amazon option) I'm not entirely certain where this offer falls. I don't think there's anything wrong with Jessica's questioning the offer if she hit upon the giftcard aspect of the offer, however, as I had a similar reaction myself.

This has been done many times by many people, veteran PBSers, PBS supporters, PBS volunteers
While I do believe that if the GCs were not OK, TPTB would have said something by now, just the fact that a lot of people do it doesn't automatically make it within the rules; it could just mean that someone did it, others thought it was OK and so more people did it. It's possible that nobody ever did ask TPTB, so it just became common practice. I can see where having to order from another commercial site would make some people wonder.
If you do a search of just the Book Bazaar with "Amazon Gift Card" you get 94 hits going back to July '09, so it has been going on for a while, at least. If one really wanted to be sure, there are a couple of BBZs (Amanda and Bernie).... they could be consulted to see if there is, for certain, an official word on the subject. If not, perhaps they could contact TPTB and get an official word....Just a thought. ;-)
