Overstock.com is offering "Tax Relief" $1 shipping on your entire order until April 21. They actually have a great selection of paranormal and urban fantasy books.  The prices are slightly lower than Amazon. Thought I'd let all my peeps know!

Thanks. I do a lot of my book shopping there. The usual price is $2.95 for shipping...much cheaper than Amazon and a lot of other places. Nice selection, too.

I didn't even know until today that they had books on there!  This is bad news for me because I always use shipping as my excuse not to buy books online (unless I spend $25 on Amazon and get free shipping).

Thanks Virginia.

I didn't know they had books there, either!

I used to do a lot of book shopping on overstock, but sadly the $1.00 shipping and the free shipping (when offered) can't be used on books alone.  The 2.95 flat rate is still nice, but when they did this a few years ago I got really turned off by it.  Here is the fine print :( :

$1 Shipping offer applies to U.S. orders with standard shipping only. For expedited shipping, additional charges apply. This offer applies to the lower U.S. 48 states and APO/FPO destinations only. This offer excludes orders comprised solely of products from the "Books, Music, Movies & Games", "Gift Cards", and "Auctions" categories. Offer ends April 21, 2009 @ 1:59 AM EDT.

I pre-order all my books on Overstock because unlike Amazon, Overstock will send the books in seperate shipments without charging you extra. So you can pre-order any amount of books with any different publishing date, they'll be mailed as soon as they are out, and you only pay shipping once for your entire order.

Wow, they have really high prices. It's cheaper to buy them at stores. :(

I used to work at Overstock.com, so maybe I can help. The $1 shipping is a great thing, and you can get it to apply to orders with books, as long as you order something non-media in that order. So think about if you need any household items, such as decorations or sheets or kitchen appliances. Or maybe even just look at clearance to find the cheapest non-media thing there is. Then as long as you order that with whatever books you are getting, you'll still get the $1 shipping.

There are a lot of really cool things on the site. *points at her white peacoat that was $50* But I would agree that if you are getting books, some of them don't offer that great of a discount. UT and IN residents should know that because the warehouses are located in those two states, they will be charged state tax on their orders.

While the selection isn't as good as Amazon, I do love Overstock for books (and a lot of other things)!  And Sarah's right about preorders - no separate shipping charge.
