I sent two books to NC - they are going to different addresses. I sent one on 6/30 and the other on 7/5 and books I sent after and books I requested and sent before those dates have arrived or marked received. This is a first. Except for a book I received from HI all my books have arrived or marked received within 7 days of sending. Is it appropriate to send a PM? Should I wait a little longer? It is wierd that both are head to NC. Thanks |

I'm in NC. I checked and I'm not one of the people waiting on your books. Just kind of saying hi from Raleigh. But the one you sent on 7/5 (which was a Sunday, so really didn't go out until 7/6) is so not even close to being late. It's weird how sometimes things take a while. I was getting antsy about a book I sent on 6/30 because like your situation, everything I mailed even a week after that has been received. Well, just got the lovely PBS note that it was received. It is definitely not appropriate to send any PMs at this time. It hasn't even been 2 weeks of pure mailing time for either book! |

I would not. The first one hasn't even been out 14 days and PBS gives 26 days for good reason. PMing based on expectations of very quick mailing is just going to annoy the member. The only time I ever PM is the right before the lost date unless I have a DC that says its been delivered some time ago (at least a week, usually wait for two). Your books are not even close to going lost and well within the time it takes. The fact that they are going to one state tells me that the trucks going in that direction are prabably full mroe often. Thanks - Heather - I forgot that I accidently pressed mailed - instead of printer wrapper again - instead of printing the wrapper I pressed close windows - so the book did go out on 7/6. I guess it was wierd that both were going to NC, both haven't showed but the one I sent to CA afterwards arrived. Maybe it is the ones to NC media mail because it was more than one book - while the one to CA went first class. I will hold off - thanks for the advice. |

PBS allows 26 days for a reason and PMs like that are annoying. You never know how long a book is going to take. Sometimes they take a month to go one state over. Sometimes they go cross country in 2 days. If they haven't been logging in to their account then PBS will deem them inactive and mark the book received for you on the lost date. They will also get reminder emails from PBS to mark the book received. |

I didn't know if TPTB checked to make sure the member was logging before it was declared lost and if they haven't logged on they marked received. I thought that when they marked an account inactive it was over a long period of time. Thank you for your opinion. edit to add: I was really curious about PBS marking the book rec'd if the member is inactive. I couldn't find anything but when the book is marked lost to PM the sender to make sure they haven't rec'd it. If they don't respond to your PM then to contact PBS and they will look into it. I couldn't find where they will automatically mark it rec'd if the account is inactive. Last Edited on: 7/14/09 11:16 AM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

Media mail is weird. There is a good chance your packages to NC are still sitting in a warehouse near your post office. Also, even if they've gotten to their destinations, July is a big vacation month. The recipients may be gone for a week, and that's fine. |

Media mail is very weird! There is no predicting....I've sent a book to a place within 50 miles of me at the same time as I sent a book going across the country, and the book going 1200 miles got there faster than the one 50 miles away. Sent from the same place, same time. I would not be PMing people asking "did you get the book?" until the system marks it lost or is just about ready to. Sometimes it does take much longer, and the member does get automated e-mails from PBS after certain times lapse asking if they have gotten it and providing a link to mark it received if they did...so a PM from you is really redundant until the book actually goes lost. And as others have said, if the member isn't active, PBS marks the book received when it would normally go lost and you get a credit. Cheryl |

Media Mail here in NC can be weird anyways.. I sent a book to Utah on the 3rd of this month and they recieved it the 6th. That was fast especially for a holiday weekend. Just shows how weird media mail can be. |

I am still waiting. I thought it wierd because it was going to the same state - mailed not many days between. Also it was a holiday weekend and the reg post clerks weren't in. I guess I am being paranoid - I haven't experineced any book not being delivered in 7 days - except for the one I received from HI. thanks everyone for your comments - much appreciated. |
